My first morning at my family's cottage last week, I woke up to the smell of breakfast. I'm always a little hopeful when we're up there, because my mom is more motivated to make breakfast. Who has time or energy to make breakfast during the week? Actually, sometimes I do. But I don't work every morning. In fact, I rarely do now, sadly. Anyway, the smell was amazing and I quickly dressed and came to the kitchen and had coffee and made the toast for everyone. I'm more motivated too.
We had a farmer's breakfast. You know, kind of like an omelette but just all mixed together. Almost everything was local to Grand Haven, too. Bonus points for mom!

Then, at the suggestion of said mom, we went kayaking. What a great suggestion. We had such a great time. Erika got a little grouchy at the end, but I just sucked it up, since it's only about once a year that I'm on the Muskegon river at that point. And it was the first time I had kayaked down it. We usually float in tubes and stuff.
It was a beautiful day, not too hot, not too cold, not too windy. Well, no, it was pretty windy in some parts and it almost stopped us a few times. We saw lots of turtles, mostly painted turtles but one HUGE snapper and three leatherbacks! We also saw a bald eagle. He was pretty awesome.

Yay! We get to meet the mom of your blog name ;) I think you're both swell.
Looks like a truly beautiful time away from everyday life. The strap of your bikini top looks shibori-esque {I actually only have a sense of what that word means from your blog ... not sure if I'm correct in my usage}. Where's it from?
Yes, this is my mom!! She's also on Facebook, but I won't give her away :)
My bikini is actually, I think, screenprinted. It's a repeat pattern. But, the strap by itself totally looks like it could be shibori!
I think it's from Target, like 4 years ago. Ha! I don't bathing suit shop much...
1. I read your last couple blog posts, and I loved your reference to Bluebs!
2. I'm so jealous you went kayaking down the muskegon, but I went to North Carolina, so we're even. Check out the photos on facebook!
3. If you and Chelsea are still doing something for Grace's Birthday, CALL ME!
4. I miss you and can't wait to hang out soon!
what a wonderful way to spend a day!!
Ash, I love Bluebs! There are so many hilarious things from when we were little :) I'm on my way to check out your photos right now!! Oh, and when I go to Maine, I'll be ahead again :) See you Thursday, hopefully!!
Theresa, hi! It definitely was.
sounds perfect. and the photos are lovely.
Hi Suann! It was such a great trip. I'm glad you liked my photos :)
Sounds lovely indeed! My mother would totally love to get me to kayak...but I don't think I could keep from overturning it...
Kayaking on a river is really easy. These were big, wide kayaks, so it would actually be pretty hard to tip. I rocked on purpose a few times and never even started to feel like I would fall over. You should go, there have to tons of beautiful rivers around you!
On pictures: I think it's fairly easy since html is not one of my best skills. When you make a post, upload your pictures as usual, the go to "edit html." Scroll down till you see "width: 666px, height: 666px" and then just change the numbers. You can delete height entirely and just make the width what you want--the pictures will adjust on their own to the proper height to match the width. I use 435px on mine. Good luck!
