Please excuse...

the crappy photos. I did a dye bath today for this fabric. The one that took forever. I wanted it to be a grayish purple, on the blue side. I didn't come out exactly like that, more like pinkish grayish purple. Oh well. It'll work! Next step... is a secret.

My fabric was too long, even bunched up, to fit in the buckets we've been dyeing in. So, I had to put it in this bin, and diagonally! Then, I had to keep rotating throughout the dye time to make sure it took evenly.

It is all so worth it when you get a few of the first threads off and get a glimpse of what is underneath. Before this step, the whole thing looks purple and for all you know, your binding might not have worked! This thought scares me every time.

Then, more and more comes off the pole and you are amazed that you made that beautiful pattern all by yourself.

I'll have photos of the entire piece of fabric tomorrow!

Have a lovely morning (I'm assuming most of you are not reading this before you go to bed tonight)!

Thanks! It looks like you just didn't have enough dye for the fabric :( It would look really good if there was enough, too! Did you sew it onto the pole?

I really want to try this! Maybe in the spring...

You should!!! There are fiber reactive dyes you can get that are already in liquid form, so they're easier to work with.

It looks very pretty. It's very interesting to read about your process--there's so much work involved! Reminds me of printing film too...the old fashioned way, sometimes you don't know what you're going to get.

Qin - Thanks! Though, it's more "art school" than DIY. Haha!

Rebecca - Hi! Shibori is a lot like printing film! Also, it reminds me strongly of ceramics. You have the make the shape, then glaze it. And who knows what will happen in the kiln!
